D-Link Router Settings

D-Link routers typically use 192.168.0.1. Default login is often admin with a blank password, or admin / admin. Check the label on your model.

How to Log In

1. Connect to the D-Link network (WiFi or cable).
2. In the browser open http://192.168.0.1.
3. Enter the default username and password.
4. Change the admin password when prompted.

Change WiFi Name and Password

Go to Wireless or Wi-Fi settings. Update the SSID (network name) and Wireless Security/Password. Save and reconnect your devices with the new password.

DNS on D-Link

In Setup or Internet / WAN, find DNS settings. Enter primary and secondary DNS (e.g. 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). See DNS Settings for options.

Port Forwarding

Advanced → Port Forwarding. Add a rule: external port, internal IP (the device that will receive the traffic, e.g. 192.168.0.10), internal port, and protocol (TCP, UDP or Both). Save and apply. Useful for games, VPN servers or remote access to a NAS or camera. The target device should have a static IP or a DHCP reservation so the rule doesn’t break when its IP changes. Firmware Update and Reset

To update D-Link firmware, go to Tools or Management → Firmware. Download the correct file from the D-Link support site for your exact model and upload it in the router. Do not power off during the update. To reset the router, use the Reset pinhole on the back; hold for about 10 seconds until the LEDs indicate a reset. Common D-Link Models

DIR-series (DIR-615, DIR-825, DIR-842) and COVR mesh kits are widely used. Interface style may be the older HTML UI or a newer mydlink-oriented layout. WiFi menus are usually under Setup → Wireless Settings or Wi-Fi. If you use a modem-router combo from an ISP, the admin IP might be customized—check the sticker.

How to Find Your D-Link Router IP

Using ipconfig (Windows)

1. Connect to the D-Link network.
2. Run ipconfig in Command Prompt.
3. Use the Default Gateway value (commonly 192.168.0.1).

Sticker and mydlink

The label on the router shows the default IP and WiFi credentials. Some models display a setup URL during first boot—note that address before completing the wizard.

Change WiFi SSID and Password (D-Link menus)

Wireless or Wi-Fi → Wireless Settings. Set SSID, security mode (WPA2-Personal recommended), and pre-shared key. Apply settings and reconnect devices. Test throughput with homespeedtest.com.

Change the Administrator Password

Go to Tools → Admin or Maintenance → Admin Password. Enter the current password (blank on first login if applicable), then set a new strong password. This is separate from the WiFi password—both should be unique. Guidance: How to Protect Your WiFi Network.

DNS Configuration Steps

Setup → Internet or Manual Internet Connection. Locate DNS fields; enter primary and secondary servers (see DNS Settings). Save and reboot if the router requests it.

DHCP and Connected Devices

Open Status → Network Clients or DHCP → DHCP Client List to view active leases and MAC addresses. For static devices, use DHCP Reservation under LAN settings so port forwarding rules stay valid.

Guest Network and Access Control

On supported models, enable Guest Zone or a separate guest SSID under Wireless. To block a device, use Advanced → MAC Filtering or access control lists—steps in How to Blacklist a WiFi User.

Firmware Update Cautions

Match the firmware file to your exact model and hardware revision. Stay on power and Ethernet during upload; interrupting the process can brick the router. If login fails after an update, try another browser or factory reset.

Factory Reset (summary)

Hold the reset button ~10 seconds until LEDs reset. Defaults return (admin / blank or admin). Re-run setup wizard if shown. Full guide: How to Reset – D-Link.
