Huawei Router and Modem Settings

Huawei routers and modems often use 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.8.1. Default login is usually admin; the password may be admin or printed on the sticker. See Router Passwords.

How to Log In

1. Connect to the Huawei WiFi or with Ethernet.
2. Open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.8.1 (or the address on the sticker).
3. Enter the default username and password (often admin / admin or from sticker).
4. Some Huawei devices use 192.168.8.1 for the web interface.

WiFi Settings

In the Huawei interface, go to WLAN or WiFi. Change the SSID (network name) and WiFi password. Save and reconnect your devices.

DNS and Internet

Under Network or Internet / WAN you can set DNS servers. Enter 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for Google DNS. See DNS Settings.

Reset Huawei Router/Modem

Use the reset button (small hole). Hold for about 10–15 seconds until the device restarts. Factory settings and default password will be restored. You may need to reconfigure WiFi and, if you use PPPoE or ISP-specific settings, enter them again. Full steps: Reset Huawei Router or Modem.

192.168.8.1 and Mobile Routers

Some Huawei devices, especially mobile WiFi (MiFi) or LTE routers, use 192.168.8.1 as the default gateway. The web interface may look different from a standard home router but the main options (WiFi name and password, admin password, sometimes DNS) are usually under WLAN or Network. The default password is often on the sticker or in the quick start guide.

Default Huawei Login Credentials

Username is usually admin; password may be admin or only on the device label. LTE/MiFi units often print a unique admin password. Reference: Router Passwords – Huawei.

Common Huawei Models

HG8245/HG8546 ONT gateways, B315/B535 LTE routers, E5576 MiFi, and AX3 WiFi 6 routers use different skins but share WLAN and WAN concepts. Mobile routers favor 192.168.8.1; fiber ONTs may bridge to a separate router—administer the device that issues your WiFi.

How to Find Your Huawei Router IP

ipconfig

1. Connect to Huawei WiFi or LAN.
2. Run ipconfig and read Default Gateway.
3. Try that address—often 192.168.8.1 on portable LTE gear.

Sticker and HiLink app

Label shows management IP, WiFi name, and passwords. Some models allow setup via HiLink app; web UI remains at the gateway IP for advanced DNS and DHCP.

Change WiFi SSID and Password

WLAN → WLAN Basic Settings or WiFi → modify SSID and WPA pre-shared key. Apply to 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz if shown separately. After changes, test at homespeedtest.com.

Change the Administrator Password

System → Modify Password or Account settings. On sticker-locked ISP devices, the provider may control admin—change WiFi password at minimum. See How to Protect Your WiFi Network.

DNS Settings

Internet / WAN → DNS server fields or DHCP DNS override. Enter servers listed in DNS Settings. ISP-locked firmware may not allow custom DNS on WAN.

DHCP and Connected Devices

LAN → DHCP Server or Connected Devices / Device Information shows leases and MAC addresses. Use binding for static IPs when port forwarding.

Port Forwarding Summary

Forward Rules, NAT, or Security → Virtual Server: map WAN port to LAN IP and port. Confirm firewall allows the service.

Guest WiFi and Parental Controls

Guest WLAN (when present) is under WLAN → Guest Network. Parental time limits appear on some home routers in Parental Control or via mobile app—not on all ISP ONT models.

Firmware Update Cautions

Do not interrupt power during upgrade. ISP ONTs may block manual firmware; consumer routers need exact model files from Huawei support. Backup configuration if export is offered.

Factory Reset (summary)

Hold reset 10–15 seconds until restart. Defaults and sticker passwords may return—reconfigure WiFi and PPPoE. Full steps: How to Reset – Huawei.
