TP-Link Router Settings
TP-Link routers are usually reached at 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. Default login is often admin / admin. Check the label on the router for your model.
How to Log In
- Connect to the TP-Link WiFi or with an Ethernet cable.
- Open a browser and go to
http://192.168.0.1orhttp://192.168.1.1. - Enter the default username and password (often admin/admin).
- Change the admin password when prompted for security.
Change WiFi Name and Password
In the TP-Link interface: Wireless or Wi-Fi → Wireless Settings. Set SSID (network name) and Wireless Password. Save and reconnect devices with the new password.
Change DNS on TP-Link
Go to Network or Advanced → WAN or Internet. Set "Use These DNS Servers" and enter e.g. 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. See DNS Settings for addresses.
Firmware Update
System Tools → Firmware Upgrade. Download the latest firmware from the TP-Link support site for your model (support.tp-link.com). Choose the exact model number; wrong firmware can brick the device. Upload the .bin file in the router interface and wait for the upgrade to finish. Do not power off during the process. After a successful update, the router may reboot and you may need to log in again with your admin password.
Port Forwarding on TP-Link
For games, remote access or hosting a server you may need to forward ports. In the TP-Link interface go to Forwarding or NAT Forwarding → Virtual Servers or Port Forwarding. Add a new rule: enter the external port (or port range), the internal IP address of the device (e.g. 192.168.0.10), the internal port, and protocol (TCP, UDP or Both). Save and apply. The device must have a fixed IP or a DHCP reservation so the rule keeps working. See Static and Dynamic IP for reserving an IP.
Guest Network and Access Control
Many TP-Link routers support a Guest Network under Wireless or WiFi settings. Enable it and set a separate name and password so visitors don’t use your main WiFi. Guest networks are usually isolated from your LAN. To block a specific device, use Wireless → Wireless MAC Filtering or Access Control: enable the feature, choose “Block” and add the device’s MAC address. See How to Blacklist a WiFi User for details.
Reset TP-Link Router
If you forgot the admin password or the router is misbehaving, use the Reset pinhole on the back. With the router on, press and hold for about 10 seconds until the LEDs blink. The router will restore factory settings and default login (usually admin/admin). You will need to set up WiFi, admin password and any custom settings again. Full steps: Reset TP-Link Router.
